The central prison of Libreville is intended to be a real centre for social reintegration, which is why several changes have taken place in recent years within the famous "Without Family".

Once considered as "hell on earth", the central prison of Libreville has considerably changed into a structure that promotes social and cultural reintegration. The situation has apparently changed in this centre, which now gives a chance to many prisoners who want to be trained in certain trades.

Working in the central prison and being seen as a "normal Gabonese" at "Sans Famille", is now a reality. There is a grocery store in the prison. This is a project initiated by the special advisor to the transitional president, the commander in chief of prison security, General Jean Germain Effayong. With private promoters, the head of the detention centres wants to promote the social and professional reintegration of prisoners upon their release from prison.

Since the establishment of these new departments, the grocery and bakery, several dozen prisoners work there and are being trained in the management of groceries and the manufacture of bread and other baked goods. After their incarceration, they will be issued with certificates of professional qualification to enable them to integrate more easily into society at the professional and social level.
