In this period of October Rose, the Portgentillaise community mobilizes around the theme chosen this year, "Against Cancer, I Commit to a Healthy Life", to fight against female cancers and remember that prevention, early detection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are essential weapons in this battle for women’s health. Because it is established that the prevention of female cancers requires a balanced diet, quality sleep and, above all, physical activity. Thus, every Saturday morning, fitness sessions are organized by the Regional Health Directorate at the Pierre Louis Agondjo Okawe Municipal Fair.

All things that were assimilated by the women detained at the Port-Gentil prison for which the social SAMU made the trip.

“Since October 5, we have been conducting Pink October activities in the various districts of the city of Port-Gentil and we have come to the central prison of Port-Gentil,Nice to raise awareness and conduct screening of breast and cervical cancers in women in prison, and everything is going well,” said Dr. Mamboundou Moussirou Clac Igor, general practitioner of the Social Service of the Gabonese Social Samu.

Whether at the Regional Hospital Center of Ntchènguè, the Maternal and Child Health Service or the hospital of the department of Bèndjè, women willingly come to be tested, even if, as a midwife found, «there is less enthusiasm than last year».

During the consultations, awareness is raised before the screening phase and cases of concern are referred to specialists. Since the beginning of the campaign, three cases considered difficult have been recorded, including two breast cancer and one cervical cancer.
