"As part of our city beautification policy, through the "Port-Gentil Ville Verte" program, I invite the owners of undeveloped plots within the urban perimeter to proceed as soon as possible to cleaning of their space and henceforth maintaining it in a permanently better state of cleanliness. Teams of municipal agents will study with them the possibilities of temporarily installing vegetable gardens. I am counting on the civic spirit of each and everyone for the successful outcome of this operation, the objective of which is to make our city beautiful and clean”.
It is in these terms that by an information note, the mayor of the municipality of Port-Gentil, addressed on February 17, 2023 to these fellow citizens.
Message received since, since Monday, May 8, neighborhood development committees (CDQ) have been working to implement this operation, which is part of the "Port-Gentil green city" program on which the municipal team is working with the support of many partners. Among these, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recently trained the members of several Neighborhood Development Committees in the creation of vegetable gardens.
Many fallow plots will thus accommodate vegetable gardens created by the inhabitants of the districts grouped into Development Committees. A “win-win” operation: the municipality will achieve environmental improvement objectives, while landowners will see their heritage maintained.
