Many people have discovered it in UNICEF capsules, declamating the articles of Organic Law N° 003/2018 of 08/02/2019 on the Children’s Code in the Gabonese Republic and providing advice to protect the rights of the child and especially to denounce those who put them at risk. The President of the Children’s Court of Port-Gentil is one of those who think that the Court not only has a role to sanction but also to raise awareness and educate, according to the well known adage that it is better to prevent than cure.
Born on May 6, 1977 in Libreville, of late Luc MARAT-ABYLA and Nicole Gisèle Françoise BENETEAU NWAMPAZA, she studied there primary and secondary school, until the 3rd grade, before going to high school in France where she will obtain her baccalaureate and study at university. Back in Gabon, she enters the School of the Magistracy from where she will come out with a diploma of judicial studies.
Entering professional life, she will successively hold the positions of Judge at the First Instance Court of Libreville (2007-2009), Vice-President of the First Instance Court of Libreville (2009-2014), First Examining Judge at the Tribunal de Première Instance of Libreville (2014-2015), Director of Social Affairs and Child Protection at the Ministry of Justice (2015-2020).
Since 2020, she has been the President of the Children’s Court.
In Port-Gentil, she is best known as a field woman. She visited almost all the secondary schools, teaching staff and students about the rights and duties of children but also about the responsibility of adults, especially that of parents. Having gained the confidence of the students, they do not hesitate to confide in her, either in her office or by slipping testimonies into the envelopes she circulates during the sensitization sessions. The administrations that must comply with the Children’s Code are not left out, especially the public sector hospital services. His sudden raids in nightclubs and drinking places have helped to get many minors out of the clutches of debauchery. The one with more than half of the city’s inhabitants having a telephone number has partnered with the services of the Town Hall to establish neighbourhood committees for child protection. An original initiative that was supported by the district chiefs who willingly agreed to receive training on the defence of children’s rights.
Also passionate about art, President MARAT-ABYLA is devoted to drawing, painting, writing and cooking.
Elevated to the rank of Magistrate Off-Hierarchy at the August 2024 Higher Council of the Magistrature, this mother of two was awarded on August 17, 2024 the medal of Knight of the Order of Gabonese merit for her years of work in the name and for the Gabonese state.
