International Children's Book Day

The Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, famous for his tales including "The Ugly Duckling", "Thumbette" or "The Little Mermaid", was born on April 2, 1805. Since 1967, the date of April 2 is dedicated to the book for children to fight against illiteracy. Sylvie Méviane Fourn, founder of the Imya library in Port-Gentil, from her South African "exile", sent a video where she read a Gabonese tale to the children gathered for the occasion around the artist and writer Nanda La Gaboma . For this, she chose a Gabonese tale with a motivating moral which, in the Omyene language, declares: "oba wi bosso wa lwanizi ndjina ni ndjana", which means "by dint of waiting for the next mango tree, the gorilla remained without eat ". To say "Never put off until later what you can do now". The story is taken from the book Inkogo, Petites fables de la forêt équatoriale, written by two Gabonese authors, Yveline and Florisse MABBYALAS. After also reading some stories to children, Nanda took the opportunity to appeal to writers to also invest in children's literature.

World Autism Awareness Day

Placed this year under the theme "Towards a neuro-inclusive world for all", World Autism Awareness Day, commemorated on April 2 each year, was celebrated the day before, in Port-Gentil, at the library of Imya district. Opportunity to raise awareness among children in primary classes who attend this reading and tutoring space which is open to them free of charge. Writer, slammer or even poetess, the artist Nanda la Gaboma spoke to the children, with words at their fingertips, on the essentials of what they needed to know about autism. Above all, how to behave with children who are affected. After explaining that autism is not contagious and that autistic children have the same rights as other children, she led her young audience to describe the behaviors to have towards autistic children. And the children respond: “we must love them”; “we have to talk to them”; “we have to play with them”; “we have to share our toys with them”; “we have to teach them what we know how to do”. They also understood that in turn, they could learn a lot from autistic children, because there are areas in which they are very good, especially music. An exercise intended to contribute to the acceptance of autism within society.

Insecurity in Port-Gentil: The judge of the Juvenile Court of Port-Gentil escapes from an attack

Loik MOUGUENGUI, a juvenile judge from Port-Gentil, narrowly escaped a stabbing. The events occurred on April 2, while he was at his home. He was the person who posted a message on a forum where he recounted what happened: “I almost suffered a robbery or a murder at my house at around 12 at night. An intruder scaled my barrier, armed with a machete, scissors, and a backpack. Luckily the neighbors saw it and we were able to get our hands on it." We are here before a new episode of insecurity that lives in the neighborhoods of Port-Gentil where not a day goes by without being informed of robberies of all kinds. Attacks that take place in broad daylight, in the midst of passersby and whose perpetrators are, for the most part, young people. Among them, many repeat offenders. This raises the question of initiatives to be taken to reintegrate young people who have served their sentences and who very often find themselves without prospects. Faithful AFANOU EDEMBE
