World Autism Awareness Day

Placed this year under the theme "Towards a neuro-inclusive world for all", World Autism Awareness Day, commemorated on April 2 each year, was celebrated the day before, in Port-Gentil, at the library of Imya district. Opportunity to raise awareness among children in primary classes who attend this reading and tutoring space which is open to them free of charge. Writer, slammer or even poetess, the artist Nanda la Gaboma spoke to the children, with words at their fingertips, on the essentials of what they needed to know about autism. Above all, how to behave with children who are affected. After explaining that autism is not contagious and that autistic children have the same rights as other children, she led her young audience to describe the behaviors to have towards autistic children. And the children respond: “we must love them”; “we have to talk to them”; “we have to play with them”; “we have to share our toys with them”; “we have to teach them what we know how to do”. They also understood that in turn, they could learn a lot from autistic children, because there are areas in which they are very good, especially music. An exercise intended to contribute to the acceptance of autism within society.

Insecurity in Port-Gentil: The judge of the Juvenile Court of Port-Gentil escapes from an attack

Loik MOUGUENGUI, a juvenile judge from Port-Gentil, narrowly escaped a stabbing. The events occurred on April 2, while he was at his home. He was the person who posted a message on a forum where he recounted what happened: “I almost suffered a robbery or a murder at my house at around 12 at night. An intruder scaled my barrier, armed with a machete, scissors, and a backpack. Luckily the neighbors saw it and we were able to get our hands on it." We are here before a new episode of insecurity that lives in the neighborhoods of Port-Gentil where not a day goes by without being informed of robberies of all kinds. Attacks that take place in broad daylight, in the midst of passersby and whose perpetrators are, for the most part, young people. Among them, many repeat offenders. This raises the question of initiatives to be taken to reintegrate young people who have served their sentences and who very often find themselves without prospects. Faithful AFANOU EDEMBE

He has just delivered his verdict. Organized since February, under the leadership of Paul Toukourou, president of the Youth Festival, the preselections of Libreville, Lambaréné, Mouila and Port-Gentil made it possible to select eight candidates, i.e. two per province. The following were chosen to represent their respective establishments: Alene Biyoghe and Ndombi Okoumba for the Aubin Georges Modjekoude high school in Lambaréné, Minto Niels for the Michel Dirat Complex (Grand Libreville), Abagha Akwe for the Mohamed Arissani high school (Grand Libreville), Moanda Bignoumba for the high school of excellence (Mouila), Ughulu Naomie for the Saint-Gabriel high school (Mouila), Assa Diawara for the Joseph Ambourouè Avaro high school (Port-Gentil) and Essono Mvono for the Islamic high school (Port-Gentil). The final, first scheduled to be held in Port-Gentil, finally took place by videoconference, following the tragedy of the sinking of the boat Esther Miracle. By presenting a plea on the impact of deforestation, Assa Diawara, from Joseph Ambourouè Avaro high school was crowned, followed by Essono Mvono from Islamic high school and Ughulu Naomie from Saint-Gabriel high school, both tied. An appointment has been made for next year, certainly with the entry into the running of other provinces. Faithful AFANOU EDEMBE

CHRISTMAS FOR ALL 4TH EDITION

To strengthen the popularization of the actions carried out by associating stakeholders, we have set up an associative village which aims to be the first platform for associative advocacy on the national level. Every December, the associative village is totally dedicated to children's rights and is usually followed by an edition of "Christmas for all" which is a recreational day during which several forgotten children celebrate the Christmas holiday like all the others. Manibus (La Main in Latin) is a multidisciplinary association of mutual aid and social action present in several countries including France, Ivory Coast, Benin and Togo. In Gabon, Manibus is very active in the fields of environment, human rights, in particular gender equality, women's rights, and children's rights. This year, the Manibus Association was in Port-Gentil. In partnership with local associations and NGOs. The discussions and advocacy of the Associative Village were done around the theme: THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD.

EDITORIAL: A Healthy Pink Life

"Never has a night defeated the dawn, and never has a problem defeated hope." (Bern Williams). Let's raise awareness! Let's raise awareness! There will always be something left. The main objective of the monthly campaign organized every October is to encourage women to adopt more virtuous behaviors, especially to prevent the cancers, presented as "feminine", of the breast and the cervix.
