THE CHALLENGES OF TRANSITION IN SOCIAL TERMS

In Gabon, since 30 August 2023, the date on which the coup d'état was carried out by the military, what they themselves called "liberation coup", has seen several measures taken by the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions, to support families in difficulty. But the most awaited measure was to "give back to the Gabonese people their dignity". One of the highlights of the commitments made by the transitional president, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, during his inauguration speech.

The SAMU social, a health structure beyond solidarity.

The Gabonese Social SAMU is an organization created to meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations in Gabon, including the homeless, people in precarious situations, and those requiring urgent medical assistance. Inspired by similar initiatives in other countries, particularly in France, the Gabonese Social SAMU aims to provide emergency assistance and social support to those who need it most.

The Africa Disability Forum

The NGO Agir pour le Handicap à l’Ecole (Gabon) and the Association "Nos Enfants Extra Capables" (France) have joined forces to organize in Port-Gentil, from December 3 to 7, 2024, in celebration of the World Day of Persons with Disabilities, "THE AFRICA DISABILITY FORUM", on the theme Inclusive practice: Education - Self-determination and Social participation of people living with an intellectual disability.

The Gabonese Foundation “My Banner”: A Solidarity Commitment from the First Lady Zita Oligui Nguema

The “Ma Bannière” Foundation, launched by the First Lady of Gabon, Mrs. Zita Oligui Nguema, is a recent initiative that demonstrates her social and humanitarian commitment to the most vulnerable populations in the country. Created in a context where Gabon continues to face socio-economic challenges, this Foundation positions itself as a key player in improving the living conditions of the Gabonese people.

Empowerment of Youth and Women in Conflict with the Law

Having launched, in 2021, the Youth and Women in Conflict with the Law Empowerment Program, the NGO SIFOS was eligible, from 2022 to 2023, for funds from the Innovative Projects of Civil Societies and Coalitions of Actors (PISCCA) with funding from the French Embassy in Gabon and São Tomé and Principe. Thus, the central prison of Libreville was equipped with aesthetic, hairdressing and e-commerce platforms, and that of Port-Gentil with technical platforms for automobile mechanics, building electricity, hairdressing and aesthetics. Eighty-two (82) women and young people in conflict with the law and 23 Relay Agents were trained in these different professions. The partnerships established with professional training centers and the training of trainers among prison staff officers will make it possible to perpetuate this initiative, the technical platforms remaining the achievements of the prisons.
